Our stay in Vienna was definitely the highlight so far. The architecture, the people, the food. Everything seemed easy and while it is so much larger than I anticipated, the justification is round every corner. It is city life done right.
We started a walking tour of the main sites but this was over 1.5km from our hotel so we had walked a distance before we started. The old coffee house Goldegg was our stop for breakfast on the way. Fabulous food and great coffee. The coffee was strictly sized, no large americanos here, so water and orange juice required to hydrate. It had a great vibe reminiscent of artists chatting things over and putting the world to rights.
What we did find on the walking tour is that so much infrastructure is being re-done. Major capital and civil engineering works everywhere. This has been the theme in Amsterdam and Belgium now I recall. Why are we not doing anything except HS2 at home?
After looking at the main government building through the fences of a circus we bowled over to a park where we could hear some live music playing. What do you know but here was a folk festival in full swing based around harvest, with tractors, lederhosen and beer. We settled in for an hour or so and ate lunch on the go here.
The evening was spent wandering and preparing for our next journey which was Vienna to Bucharest.
