3rd April – So we are sitting at Gatwick airport waiting for our flight to Majorca. The meet and greet worked out really well. Still slightly in-nerving to hand your car keys to someone in return for a slip of paper! Luke got stopped at security and he looked very frightened. I shouldn’t have said that he was in trouble. When will I learn? He is over it now with a burger bigger than his head at Frankie and Bennys. Just shown the kids the flights taking off and landing, their faces were almost how I imagined. How can something that big get into the sky? Evidently the flight is delayed with air traffic control people in France. No rush I guess. Have to let go of the need to be doing something. Can we squeeze in a cinnamon waffle with chocolate sauce, chocolate ice cream and honeycomb? Mmmmmmm. It feels like siesta time!

I’m a little insect,
Hiding in your ear,
I make your life more miserable,
I’m sure you’ll agree!
This is the story of an insect in my Grandad’s ear. In the song I’m the insect!

Bags
No-one gets away bag free! The kids will each have their own rucksack.
They have to carry their own sleeping bag and 1 small soft toy. This will be like a Dr Seuss thneed! It will double as a seat, a pillow and goodness knows what else while we are away.
Jenni and I will carry the rest in one 65l and one 70l Lowe Pro ruck sack we had from travelling 10 years ago. Was it really that long ago??

Introducing the map
As we move around the place we will be updating this map with details of our trip. I have put the departure flights in for now. Very exciting!

It all starts here!
It is super late for me but I have got to where we can start. A category for each member of the family, a theme that we can work with and hosted on a site of our own.
Quite excited about the trip and the planning is now fully under way. Will let you know how we get on.

We have done it!
We have finally done it – are we brave or mad? After months of deliberation and several complete changes of plan we have booked flight tickets. London to Singapore on 25th June and Bangkok back to London ten weeks later on 3rd September! The flights are non refundable, non transferable so we’re totally committed. I went from excited to terrified in about five minutes between planning to book and actually having booked. I can’t wait to go, but I’m slowly realising that it’s quite a big step! We are so lucky to be in a position to make this trip, and for our jobs to be flexible enough to allow us to go, I want to make sure we enjoy every moment.
